Horseshoe Casino Cleveland
A new, first-class urban casino is coming to downtown Cleveland
in March 2012 just blocks from Quicken Loans Arena and Progressive
Field, and just steps from many of downtown's best entertainment
and cultural spots.
In November 2009, Ohio voters approved four commercial casinos
statewide, including one in downtown Cleveland. The urban
casino will be built on a site overlooking the Cuyahoga River in
the heart of downtown. The casino will be designed and will
operate with a philosophy of promoting the cross-pollination of the
area's entertainment, restaurant, and retail businesses.
Horseshoe Casinos in downtown Cleveland and downtown Cincinnati
will be developed by Rock Gaming, LLC, and Harrah's Entertainment
Inc. Rock Gaming is led by entrepreneur Dan Gilbert, majority
owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and chairman and founder of
Quicken Loans, Inc., the nation's largest online mortgage lender.
Under a tentative agreement, Harrah's Entertainment Inc., the
world's largest and most successful gaming company will serve as an
equity partner on the casino development and run the casinos'
day-to-day operations.
Projected to attract nearly 5 million annual visits to the
downtown, Horseshoe Cleveland will be another high-profile addition
to the city's impressive sports, entertainment, music and cultural
destinations. The estimated $350 million in new development will
create nearly 1,600 casino jobs.
At the request of the City and regional leadership, Horeshoe
Casino Cleveland is opening Phase I of casino development in the
Higbee Building, a former department store building in the core of
downtown. The future casino boasts 96,000 square feet of non-stop
gaming action, approximately 2,100 slot machines, 65 table games
and a 25-table World Series of Poker room.
In addition to Cleveland and Cincinnati, casinos are also coming
to Columbus and downtown Toledo. The latter two will be developed
by Penn National Gaming, a prominent owner and operator of casinos
and racetracks throughout the United States.
